Wiki in Academia

The online collaborative encyclopedia Wikipedia is probably the most famous website using Wiki, a platform for easy creation and editing of content using a simplified markup language. Wikis are now popularly used in collaborative websites and knowledge management.

Liquid Books is a wiki project initiated by Open Humanities Press co-founder Gary Halls where [liquidbooks]a series of experimental digital ‘books’ are published under the conditions of both open editing and free content[/liquidbooks], inviting readers to compose, rewrite, edit, annotate, tag and remix any of the books in the series, or produce parallel versions of them. Lawrence Lessig’s [Code_v2/] and Charles Leadbeater’s [We-think/] are also wiki-edited books which became published and distributed in print. Some of the more tech-savvy academics are already experimenting with Wiki as a platform for open discussion and editing.
